3rd Session: Examples of School Feeding Programmes and Policies

The Regional Technical Platform for Family Farming and the United Nations Decade for Family Farming invite you to participate in the second edition of the cycle of technical exchanges for family farming, which will focus on public procurement for family farming.

The Regional Technical Platform for Family Farming is a global initiative facilitated by the FAO Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, with the support of the Partnership and UN Collaboration Division (PSU), and aims to create spaces for dialogue and exchange of experiences to promote technical and institutional innovations that strengthen the family farming sector.

The cycle will consist of 3 virtual sessions focusing on different experiences of public procurement, with special attention to school feeding programmes and the main tools for operationalising these initiatives, recognising their multidimensionality and capacity to deliver results in different areas related to environmental, social and economic dimensions in countries:

Session 1: Family farming in the different public procurement mechanisms: a global look at lessons learned and challenges – 04 April – Available at https://www.fao.org/platforms/family-farming/technical-exchanges/es

Session 2: Enabling Tools for Public Procurement Programmes and Policies for Family Farming – 02 May – available at https://www.fao.org/platforms/family-farming/technical-exchange-cycle-for-family-farming–public-procurement/es

Session 3: Examples of school feeding policies and programmes – Date: 04 June, 10:00 Barbados time

The third session will present different configurations of public procurement from family farming for school feeding, demonstrating different mechanisms to link family farmers to these programmes, thereby improving the supply of healthy and nutritious food. It will also present the experience of the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES), a strategy promoted by the Brazilian government to collectively and widely develop solutions to the challenges of school feeding under the principle of the human right to adequate food.

In addition, several success stories, such as those from Brazil, Peru and Burkina Faso, will be presented in depth, providing insight into the scope, challenges and opportunities of implementing different programmes.

Participants will be able to join via the Zoom platform, with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, Portuguese and Arabic. The recordings will be published on the website of the Regional Technical Platform for Family Farming.
