Activities to promote food and nutrition education (FNE) will be the subject of an FNDE-Brazil publication

The National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) has announced the results of the selection of the reports that will make up the book for the 5th edition of the Food and Nutrition Education Journey (FNE).

The FNE Journey was created with the aim of helping to raise awareness of healthier food choices, as well as encouraging debate and the practice of food and nutrition education in the school environment. The initiative involves the whole school community in promoting the activities and, at the end, it is possible to publicise and value those actions that have stood out within the institutions.

In this edition, 1,546 activities were submitted, divided into the four themes proposed by the day:

  1. Learning about healthy eating in practice: shall we cook?
  2. Agroecology is the path to health for humanity and the planet
  3. Using social media as a facilitator to integrate the school community into FNE activities
  4. Valuing and rescuing regional food culture by promoting FNE

Of the 1,508 schools that took part, 349 completed the FNE Journey and will receive the FNE Journey seal and an Honourable Mention certificate.

The 20 stories that will be published in the books went through a committee made up of 17 evaluators divided into the four themes, who assessed the texts on 10 criteria included in the call for proposals.

The idea of the book is to celebrate the achievements of the participating schools and serve as a powerful tool to promote the dissemination of good practices and inspire new actions, as well as contributing to building a healthy and nutritious food culture in school communities.

The Food and Nutrition Education Day (FNE) – The project is an FNDE initiative that has been running since 2017. Its aim is to encourage the debate and practice of FNE actions in the school environment, as well as giving visibility to the activities already being carried out in public schools across the country.

FNE is an investment that takes place in the present but is reflected in the future. Through your actions you can improve eating habits, prevent disease and help the environment!

Participants who complete the Jornada are given a full seal of completion and a Certificate of Honourable Mention for the nutritionist, the school headmaster, the coordinator of the Jornada and the participating school. In addition, the 20 best stories are selected to make up the book for each edition.
