The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) invite you to participate in the ‘Regional Workshop on Sustainable Public Procurement for Sustainable Food Systems in Latin America and the Caribbean’. The virtual event is part of a joint project to strengthen the actions of the sustainable public procurement and sustainable food systems programmes of the One Planet network.
One of the objectives of the workshop is to validate the preliminary results of the joint FAO-UNEP project to develop a regional roadmap focusing on school food procurement and the integration of environmental considerations. Another objective is to identify priority recommendations for sustainable public procurement that could be applied at the global level.
In this edition, the workshop aims to create a space where experiences in public procurement for school food can be shared and enriched. The main invited audience is composed of government representatives, representatives of the Inter-American Network of Government Procurement (RICG), representatives of the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES), representatives of FAO, UNEP, WFP and other stakeholders.
The event will be attended by representatives of the Brazilian government, a country with 67 years of experience in school feeding. The Brazilian programme provides free and universal school feeding purchased from family farms. Najla Veloso, Regional Coordinator of the project Regional Agenda for School Feeding in Latin America and the Caribbean, implemented within the framework of the Brazil-FAO International Cooperation and part of the Executive Secretariat of the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES), will also participate in the event.
