Exchange of experiences cycle_ Mechanisms for the implementation of public procurement from family farming for school feeding

The project “Strengthening School Feeding Programmes: towards healthier and more sustainable environments during and after the health pandemic”, implemented by the Food Coalition together with the countries of Colombia, Ecuador and El Salvador, with technical assistance from FAO, has planned three exchanges of experiences with the support and backing of the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES), which promotes spaces for dialogue in Latin America and the Caribbean and the strengthening of school feeding.

The second event, Mechanisms for the implementation of public procurement of family farming for school feeding, will be held virtually through the Zoom platform.

The event aims to:

  • Contextualise with participants how school feeding is an opportunity for climate action, malnutrition and more sustainable production models.
  • Provide countries with practical mechanisms for the implementation of public procurement of fresh food from family farms to strengthen school feeding.
  • To identify innovative solutions that countries can use as a reference when implementing the fresh food public procurement component.

The target groups of the event are:

  • Government representatives and heads of ministries responsible for school feeding in Colombia, Ecuador and El Salvador.
  • Representatives from other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Delegates from civil society.
  • Representatives from the Brazilian government and RAES focal points.
  • FAO School Feeding Cluster
  • FAO experts and technical team.
  • Representatives of producer cooperatives
