From October 25 to 29, 2026, Santiago, Chile, will host the XXI Latin American Congress of Nutrition (SLAN 2026), one of the leading spaces for scientific exchange and dialogue on food and nutrition in Latin America.
Under the theme “Transforming food systems in Latin America: from evidence to action,” the congress will bring together researchers, professionals, public sector managers, and representatives of different organizations to discuss pathways toward healthier, more sustainable, and equitable food systems. The event will take place at the CEINA Cultural Center in Santiago.
The Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES) will be part of the SLAN 2026 program and will participate on October 28 in a symposium dedicated to school feeding and nutrition.
This participation reinforces the importance of school feeding as a key strategy for promoting adequate and healthy diets, strengthening sustainable food systems, and contributing to the health and development of students in our region.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity to share experiences, knowledge, and solutions developed by countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, while strengthening dialogue among different stakeholders involved in school feeding and the transformation of food systems.
RAES’s presence at SLAN 2026 continues a journey that began at the previous edition of the congress, held in 2023 in Cuenca, Ecuador. On that occasion, RAES had a prominent presence, with a booth at the congress and a symposium where it presented experiences, progress, and opportunities for cooperation in school feeding in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
Participation in Cuenca provided a platform to raise the profile of the school feeding agenda, promote exchanges between countries, and connect RAES with the scientific community and professionals working in nutrition, health, and food systems.
Now, in 2026, RAES returns to SLAN to expand this dialogue, share knowledge, and strengthen school feeding as an essential component of food system transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean
RAES is jointly implemented by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE), with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) serving as its executive secretariat.
