The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites children and young people from around the world, aged between 5 and 19, to take part in the World Food Day 2026 Poster Contest.
Under the theme “Innovate today, nourish tomorrow”, the competition encourages younger generations to reflect and express, through art and creativity, how innovation can contribute to transforming our agrifood systems, feeding the world, protecting the planet and building a better future for everyone.
When we talk about innovation, we may think of new technologies, data, artificial intelligence, machines or robots. However, innovation also means developing new ideas, using creativity and finding better ways to share knowledge and solutions. Both traditional and modern innovations, as well as small-scale and large-scale innovations, can play an important role in building more sustainable and inclusive food systems.
The challenge is to create a poster that represents what “Innovate today, nourish tomorrow” means to each participant and to share a vision of how science, technology, imagination, knowledge and nature can help us build a better food future.
Who can take part?
The competition is open to children and young people aged between 5 and 19 from anywhere in the world. Participation is free of charge, and participants will be divided into the following categories:
- Ages 5 to 8;
- Ages 9 to 12;
- Ages 13 to 15;
- Ages 16 to 19.
Each participant may submit one poster only.
How can you take part?
Posters may be created using different artistic techniques, such as drawings, paintings, coloured pencils or a combination of materials. They may also be designed digitally. Photographs and artwork containing content generated by generative artificial intelligence tools are not permitted.
All entries must be original and submitted in JPEG format, exclusively through the online registration form.
The deadline for submitting posters is 6 November 2026.
FAO has also made available the World Food Day Children’s Activity Book, “Innovate today, nourish tomorrow”, a resource aimed at educators, parents and carers, featuring activities that encourage young people to explore innovation in agrifood systems and global challenges.
This initiative represents an excellent opportunity to promote creativity, encourage the participation of children and young people, and reflect on the future of food and our planet.
