RAES takes part in the Latin American Nutrition Congress in Ecuador

October 23, 2023 – The Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES) is participating, from October 22 to 26, in the XX Latin American Nutrition Congress promoted by the Latin American Society of Nutrition (SLAN). This edition of the traditional regional congress is taking place in Cuenca, Ecuador, and will be attended by researchers, members of civil society, and professionals in the field of nutrition from different countries in Latin America.

RAES is implemented by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ABC/MRE), the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

During this event, RAES will have a booth showcasing the work it has carried out since its founding in 2018. The booth will feature materials, videos, photos, and will be a space to exchange experiences with professionals about the role of RAES.

On the other hand, the FAO representation in Ecuador will present the management model of School Feeding Programmes through the implementation of the “Sustainable Schools” methodology, created and guided within the framework of the Brazil-FAO Cooperation. They will also share the Food-Based Dietary Guidelines, which guide the population to choose and consume local, healthy, and culturally appropriate foods to maintain optimal health.

The goal of having a booth and organizing a symposium is an opportunity to raise visibility and promote dialogue, capacity development, and information exchange to strengthen school feeding programmes in the Latin America and Caribbean region and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

RAES Symposium

The symposium ‘Sustainable School Feeding Network: Progress and Perspectives in Latin America and the Caribbean.’ will take place on October 23 at 4:30 pm in Ecuador at the Hugo Ordoñez room of the University of Cuenca.

RAES’s participation is coordinated within the framework of the project ‘Consolidation of School Feeding Programmes in Latin America and the Caribbean,’ developed by Brazil-FAO International Cooperation and involves representatives from ABC, FNDE, FAO, and the Government of Ecuador.

The governments of Brazil and Ecuador will be represented by Ana Carolina Sousa, Head of the Family Agriculture Development Division of FNDE, and Reinaldo López, Director of Educational Resources at the Ministry of Education of Ecuador. They will have the opportunity to disseminate the progress and challenges of school feeding programmes in their countries and how RAES has supported the management of these programmes.
